Charge

The fee that the hospital or healthcare provider charges the insurance company or patient for a health service/procedure.

Price: The amount that the insurance carrier or patient pays for the health service/procedure after discounts, and contracted rates are applied to the charge.

Healthcost was initially released in 2005 by the New Hampshire Insurance Department Advisory Council and the UNH Institute for Health Policy and Practice. The website was re-released in March 2007 and contains medical claims data for all New Hampshire insurance companies. The data is 2005 and 2006. Users can select specific medical procedures and then determine how much the procedures cost based upon health plan and health care service provider.
