Analysis based on HOSPITAL CHARGE data, Inpatient Only

New Hampshire Hospital Association partnered with Wisconsin Hospital Association to produce the database and website for NHPricepoint. NHPricepoint presents the average charge and length of stay for all procedures at all NH hospitals. In addition, there is information about the payer mix, bad debt, and charity care for each hospital.

Value for employers

The data is available for all procedures performed in any of the 26 hospitals in the state. While making comparisons between and among facilities is somewhat cumbersome (only one hospital’s information is presented for each query), the ability to examine number of discharges, length of stay and average charge for any procedure or DRG performed in NH hospitals makes Pricepoint a comprehensive resource for the study of healthcare utilization.

As well as procedure information, Pricepoint presents standardized financial information for each of the hospitals including payer mix; % paid of Medicaid, Medicare and private; bad debt and charity care data. Employers should be aware of the payer mix because:

"In many cases, Medicare & Medicaid reimburse hospitals at rates that do not cover the costs they incur to provide care. Payments from privately insured patients generally subsidize the shortfalls created by Medicare and Medicaid and therefore represent a “hidden tax” on individuals and families not covered by government programs."
