Analysis is based on MEDICARE PATIENT RECORD data
Hospital Compare was developed by the US Department of Health and Human Services. The website, similar to NHqualitycare, analyzes patient record data to provide comparisons across healthcare facilities on the delivery of evidence-based treatment for four conditions: health attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical infection prevention. Within these treatable conditions are measures of care. For instance, for heart failure, a measure of quality of care is providing discharge instructions at the time of discharge.
Value for employers
This website presents data about the quality of care at a particular facility. Other valuable information includes the number of times that the hospital has performed a particular procedure or treated the condition. While the website seems to provide current information, many of the hospitals that have provided data for NHQualitycare did not have data on Hospital Compare. Hospital Compare allows 12 facilities to be compared for each query; NHQualityCare compares all facilities for each query.
